Job Summary
Individual is expected to perform a variety of routine tasks in support of the conduct of normal laboratory operations and similar duties as assigned. Also responsible for cleaning laboratory glassware and equipment, as well as stocking and requesting laboratory supplies.  Maintains the cleanliness of the laboratory including but not limited to sweeping and washing the floor, cleaning bench tops, fume hoods.  Individual disposes of chemical and solid waste.  Responsible for the development of familiarity with routine assignments and laboratory practices.  Responsible for understanding and adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. 

  1. Job Duties
Essential Functions
  1. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  2. Be able to lift a maximum of 40-60 lbs, repetitively.
  3. Must be able to work in noisy and busy environments.
  4. Must be able to work with balances, fume hoods and other standard laboratory equipment.
  5. Must be able to use wheel barrow, pliers, wrenches and screwdrivers.
  6. Must be able to reach low and high storage areas and test systems.
  7. Must be able to wash glassware used by the laboratory.
  8. Must be able to dispose of radiolabeled and non-radiolabeled samples including but not limited to soils, plant parts, animal tissues, water and sediment as well as liquid (e.g., solvents, acids and bases) and paper waste.
  9. Be able to work in a freezer (-25 ºC) for up to 1 hour at a time.
  10. Be able to work with respirator.
  11. Must be able to work in a greenhouse (32 ºC) for up to 2 hours at a time.
  12. Additional duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions
  1. Be able to use a photocopy machine.
  2. Be able to work more than 8 hours per day, on occasion.
  3. Must have a driver's license; and be able to drive to nearby stores for supplies.

  1. Chemical Safety
  1. Must be able to comprehend the potential hazards of the chemicals in use and adhere to the proper safety techniques as dictated by the Safety Manual and/or Management.
  1. Laboratory Safety
  1. Must be able to wear gloves, lab coat, eye protection, sleeves, hearing protection, pesticide suit, plastic booties, dust masks, a respirator and a face mask.
  1. Must be able to understand and follow laboratory safety standards
  • Job Specifications
    High school diploma or equivalency.  No experience required.
