About Smithers Viscient Neurotoxicology:

The adverse effect of various pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals and chemicals on the structure and function of the central nervous system (CNS) is important to characterize since the CNS is the most complex organ system in the body. Evaluation of pesticides and other environmental chemicals is specifically required by EPA OPPTS 870 series and/or OECD guidelines. In order to measure these potential changes Smithers Viscient offers the following neurobehavioral evaluations which can be performed separately or as part of a toxicology study:

  • Functional Observational Batteries (FOB), Modified Irwin Screen
  • Learning and memory  
  • Auditory startle habituation
  • Locomotor activity

These studies utilize both standard and specialized routes of administration including intermittent and continuous infusion. We are able to offer neuropathology evaluation involving in situ perfusion and collection of cerebrospinal fluid from rats for bionanalytical evaluation.
