SETAC Europe Meet and Greet

HARROGATE, UK – May 3rd, 2018 – Smithers Viscient, a global contract research organization (CRO), today announced that a number of the company’s expert scientists will meet to discuss what’s next when Tier I Results do not make the Grade.

Mike Bradley, Senior Research Biologist & Ron Biever, Chief Scientific Officer at Smithers Viscient, will co-host a meet and greet session title “Tier I Results Not Making the Grade? - Tier II Options in the Registration of Plant Protection Products in the EU.”

All plant protection products (PPP) to be registered in the EU must be assessed to determine a regulatory acceptable concentration (RAC) that protects aquatic plants and invertebrates at a population level, as well as aquatic vertebrates on an individual basis. Obligatory Tier I testing consists of a relatively small battery of tests to establish acute and chronic effects on a set of standard test organisms. These exposures are conducted under a worst-case continuous exposure scenario and conservative assessment factors are applied to establish the RAC. Given the biologically active nature of most PPP, Tier I assessments may often not initially result in a RAC that can support the product and surface water protection goals. Tier II testing provides options to reduce assessment factors, however, through consideration of relative species sensitivity and exposure refinement.

Smithers Viscient will host a complimentary luncheon and meet the experts, Mike Bradley, Senior Research Biologist & Ron Biever, Chief Scientific Officer at SETAC, Rome, Italy on Wednesday 16th May, 12.30-1.30pm – Meeting room 2
