Job Summary
 
Position is responsible for the direction and supervision of a staff dedicated to conducting a broad range of regulated studies. The Director, Fate provides a group of regulated testing services, including biological support for regulated chemicals, primarily crop protection products, pharmaceutical and industrial chemicals. Individual is responsible for the management and supervision of subordinate activities related to the conduct, analysis, evaluation and reporting of contracted studies. Responsible for fiscal management of the department, including PL management, capital expenditures, budgeting and forecasting.  Ensures conformance to technical, quality assurance and financial performance objectives. Creates and maintains administrative procedures to attain high standards of data quality and reliability. Collaborates with other Department Managers to assure overall facility financial performance. Utilizes skills and knowledge to create new technologies.
 

  1. Job Duties
             Essential Functions:
 
Fiscal responsibilities for the department, including PL management, budgeting and forecasting.
  1. Leads efforts relative to long-term planning, including initiatives geared toward operational excellence.
  2. Provides the necessary personnel and facility resources for the technical department.
  3. Develops new customers and maintains existing customer relationships.
  4. Develop technology and business leaders.
  5. Promote the entire company's expertise.
  6. Responsible for investigating and implementing new technologies as needed.
 Manage and problem-solve business issues [financial problem-solving, business acumen]. Ability to lead and influence others [written and oral communication]. Exceptional ability to integrate observations [visual and written discrimination] into evaluation process. Exceptional problem solving skills [mathematical reasoning]. Ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize work assignments for assigned staff and handle stress [high productivity]. Comfortable working with standard computer software [word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, statistical software].

Chemical Safety 
  1. Must be able to comprehend the potential hazards of the chemicals in use and adhere to the proper safety techniques as dictated by the Safety Manual and/or Management.
 Laboratory Safety Must be able to wear gloves, lab coat, eye protection, sleeves, hearing protection, pesticide suit, plastic booties, dust masks, a respirator and a face mask. 
  1. Must be able to understand and follow laboratory safety standards.

 Job Specifications
 
B.S. degree in chemistry or related life-science field and at least 7 years of demonstrated management and supervisor experience. MBA, M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred. Must have depth and breadth of management and fiscal experience to lead and manage a team of scientists in the laboratory as well as promote company expertise among a client base to maintain and grow customer base. Previous experience with P & L required. Technical skills in regulated studies desired. Client interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Proficient in documentation and procedures required by Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.
