Director of Chemistry, Harrogate

At our European Laboratory, the need has arisen for a Director of Chemistry to join the business to provide direction, strong leadership and vision to a recently restructured team focusing on Analytical & Product Chemistry, Global Chemical Notification and Residue Chemistry.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the position will provide organisational leadership and direction for the laboratory staff and existing study directors within the Chemistry team.  You will be responsible for improving customer service, mentoring and developing existing staff, as well as providing operational support where required.


You will ensure conformance to technical and quality assurance objectives, develop business metrics, and will utilise your skills and knowledge to foster a strong relationship with the team.




Broad scientific knowledge in Chemistry with around three to five years’ experience working in industry or within a CRO.
Strong leadership skills and/or a track record of training/developing colleagues would be paramount to success.
The ability to evaluate the knowledge, experience and performance of lab staff would ensure success within this role, particularly when developing work performance standards, scheduling and assigning work and developing metrics.
As a line manager in a key operational role, excellent commercial, operational, and financial acumen based on demonstrable experience of P&L responsibility will be important attributes. 
Prior experience of working in a GLP environment is essential.
Having academic experience is essential in this environment; to be successful in this position, candidates must have a Science degree, preferably in Analytical or Physical Chemistry, although a PhD/MSc in one of the above mentioned or allied areas would be desirable.
